Beyond the obvious attractions, places like Rossendale, Burnley, Blackburn, Bolton, Rochdale, Bradford, and Manchester offer hidden gems that are both affordable and fun!

Here are some top picks to consider:

1. Smithills Open Farm, Bolton

Set within 70 acres of rolling countryside north of Bolton, Smithills Open Farm is a family-run establishment that offers a hands-on experience with a variety of farm and zoo animals.

Visitors can meet and greet animals, explore the dairy farm, enjoy tractor rides, and indulge in farm-made ice cream.

The farm is open year-round from 10 am to 5 pm, and tickets can be purchased online.

From Tuesday, 18 February to Thursday, 20 February, the gallery collaborates with Afrocats to present free, drop-in workshops celebrating colour, music, storytelling, and dance.

These sessions, running daily from 12 pm to 3 pm, provide an inclusive environment where visitors of all ages can immerse themselves in diverse cultural expressions.

11. Hoghton Tower’s School of Witchcraft & Wizardry, Preston

For a magical experience, Hoghton Tower is hosting its School of Witchcraft & Wizardry event on February 23rd.

Designed for children aged 6 to 10, this immersive storytelling adventure includes lessons on casting spells, brewing exploding potions, and practicing broomstick racing. F

ancy dress is encouraged, and participants are advised to wear warm layers and comfortable footwear, as some activities take place in the tower’s underground passages!

Tickets are £16 for children and £7 for accompanying adults, with pre-booking essential due to limited spaces.
