Rafik (5)

Say Hello to the latest Olive Branch Fostering family member, Charlotte Johnson!

Charlotte is our new Children & Young Persons Engagement Officer.

Charlotte very quickly got into the Olive Branch spirit, in her first week she was already dressing up as a butterfly at our recent Garden Celebration!

We caught up with our Charlotte, to find out more about her and her new role.

Tell us about yourself!

I come from a background of working in schools, supporting young children with additional needs. This has given me a wealth of experience dealing with challenging behaviours and working with different Special Educational Needs.

I also have a Psychology degree which has given me a broad understanding of how different conditions occurs and how is best to support young people.

What inspired you to join the Olive Branch Family?

I wanted a new challenge and wanted to support children and young people not just through their education, but in their life as well.

I saw this role as an opportunity to support children going through difficult situations.

Could you tell us more about the role of Children & Young Persons Engagement Officer?

I get to meet the children and young people in our agency and check in to see how they are getting on. I get to build a meaningful relationship with them, to ensure that they have someone who listens to them and to talk to about any worries that they have.

I am also there to ensure that their wishes and feelings are heard. We do lots of fun activities together and often go out and about!

What does a typical day look like for you?

My day varies every single day which I love. Most days I will go out and visit a child and do something fun.

We often do a fun activity or go out and about, I am always there as a listening ear for any worries or concerns that the child may have.

I also spend my days creating and planning different events for our young people to engage in.

What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is seeing children thriving and creating positive memories, whilst building up their strength and resilience after all of the challenges they have faced.

What do you get up to in your spare time?

I spend a lot my spare time walking my dog, Cooper, who is a one year old, playful Black Labrador puppy.

I love anything related to performing arts and dance, I spent a lot of my time at university on the cheerleading team, where we began national champions in my final year.

I love travelling and have recently been to Australia, which was an incredible experience!

Charlotte’s role reflects our commitment to helping young people in our community. We have supported hundreds of foster families, working tirelessly to support our foster carers and the children in their care.
